Cinema makes its return to UYI

On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Prof. Remy Magloire ETOUA, Rector of the University of Yaounde I, and Mrs. Nancy AKA, CEO of the Majestic One Group, signed the management contract for the Majestic Yaounde I University Cinematographic Complex (formerly CanalOlympia), which was handed over a few months ago by the Canal+ Group.

In front of several UYI officials, the CEO of the Ivorian group Majestic One expressed her pride in setting foot on Cameroonian soil, particularly within the mother of universities. She took this opportunity to announce the transition of her company to the status of a pan-African conglomerate. For this landing on the Ngoa-Ekelle campus, the business leader brought with her valuable expertise in film programming, projection, co-production, as well as in the management of cultural spaces.

These skills reflect her extensive professional experience, which was praised by Prof. Remy Magloire ETOUA. The Rector of the University of Yaounde I also took the opportunity to express the expectations of the institution he leads, notably: effective and productive involvement within the framework of public private partnerships, a practical training platform for students in Performing Arts and Cinematography, and a source of wealth and employment for both UYI and the Cameroonian economy. Above all, this initiative represents a concrete alignment with the university industry concept advocated by Law No. 2025/007 of July 23, 2023, on the orientation of higher education.

Sharing the same vision for this new partnership, both parties signed the management contract of what is now the Majestic Yaounde I University Cinematographic Complex.
