This is one of the oldest departments in the Faculty of Arts, letters and Social Sciences. The department received the first students in 1961 and the first ever Ph.D. awarded by the University of Yaounde was defended by Tala Kashim Ibrahim, then a student of this department and now Professor emeritus.Because of its age and centrality to the national objective of full bilingualism, this department is not far away from the administrative building.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Academic\u00a0result<\/span><\/i><\/i><\/i><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\nBetween January and December 2011 alone, this department has produced 5 high profile Ph.D.\/Doctorat scholars, namely: Atoh Julius Chenwi; Evangeline Agwa Fomukong; Fonka Hans; Kiwoh Terence N.; Sokeng P. St\u00e9phane Celeste. There are about 10 doctorate students (all specializations considered) whose theses have been forwarded to external examiners for expertise, and another 20 to 25 others who are close to completing theirs.
