The department received the first students in 1961 and the first ever Ph.D. awarded by the University of Yaounde was defended by Tala Kashim Ibrahim, then a student of this department and now Professor emeritus.Because of its age and centrality to the national objective of full bilingualism, this department is not far away from the administrative building.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tl-section-title clearfix style-1 text-left show-under_line dark txt\">\n<h2>Academic\u00a0<span class=\"main-color\">result<\/span><i class=\"fa fa-star\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-star\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-star\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tl-empty-space \">\n<div class=\"tl_empty_space_lg\">Between January and December 2011 alone, this department has produced 5 high profile Ph.D.\/Doctorat scholars, namely: Atoh Julius Chenwi; Evangeline Agwa Fomukong; Fonka Hans; Kiwoh Terence N.; Sokeng P. St\u00e9phane Celeste. There are about 10 doctorate students (all specializations considered) whose theses have been forwarded to external examiners for expertise, and another 20 to 25 others who are close to completing theirs. Student enrolment for 2011-2012: Level 1 \u2013 450.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tl-empty-space \">\n<div class=\"tl_empty_space_lg\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tl-section-title clearfix style-1 text-left show-under_line dark txt\">\n<h2>Specialisations<i class=\"fa fa-star\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-star\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-star\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tl-empty-space \">\n<div class=\"tl_empty_space_lg\"><strong>Level 1 and 2 <\/strong>: Fundamental courses and selected minor and complementary\/transversal courses from other departments; bilingual training<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p><strong>Level 3\u00a0<\/strong>: 3 specialisations offered: Language; American and Commonwealth Literature; British Literature<\/p>\n<p><strong>Level 4\u00a0<\/strong>: Research methodology course and a computer course for everybody<\/p>\n<p><strong>Level 5\u00a0<\/strong>: Specialisations offered:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"taalem-list\">\n<li><strong>English Language (phonology, syntax, morphology, semantics)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sociolinguistics<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>American Literature<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Commonwealth Literature<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>British Literature<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tl-empty-space \">\n<div class=\"tl_empty_space_lg\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tl-section-title clearfix style-1 text-left show-under_line dark txt\">\n<h2>Openings after Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.)\u00a0<span class=\"main-color\">(Licence)<\/span><i class=\"fa fa-star\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-star\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-star\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tl-empty-space \">\n<div class=\"tl_empty_space_lg\">It should be borne in mind that in this department, we teach language, and if you understand language, you can operate in many systems. On graduation, our students have a wide margin of choices ahead of them.
