🚨 1st of May Celebration ‼️
UYI Makes a Glorious Appearance
The University of Yaounde I took part this Thursday, May 1st, 2025, in the festivities marking International Labour Day. The staff of this prestigious institution proudly marched along the 20th May Boulevard in Yaounde and at the ceremonial square in Mbalmayo, under the watchful and supportive gaze of the Rector, Prof Remy Magloire Etoua, present at the official grandstand.
This dynamic participation concluded a Worker’s Week rich in activities, which began on Monday, April 28, 2025. The program featured a football tournament, a fitness walk, a conference-debate, and a food fair – initiatives that brought together the entire university community.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the friendly meal offered by the Rector to all staff at the University Restaurant No. 2. This moment of togetherness was marked by the awarding of the trophy to the Campus Police team, winners of the UYI Worker’s Tournament, and a touching gesture: the presentation of a special gift to the Rector from the staff, in appreciation of his unwavering commitment.
In his address, coordinator Jean-Jacques Mbida expressed the administrative staff’s gratitude to the Rector for his numerous accomplishments, notably: “the progressive recruitment of temporary staff, improved working conditions, regular salary payments, and the appointment of several agents to positions of responsibility.”
He also raised a few requests aimed at enhancing staff efficiency, namely: “the formalization of part-time staff, and authorization for the issuance of Irrevocable Transfer Certificates (AVI) for contractual employees.”
In response, Professor Remy Magloire Etoua, to thunderous applause, announced the resumption of AVI issuance for the concerned workers under specific conditions and reaffirmed his commitment to continue the progressive recruitment of temporary staff.
“I pledge to remain attentive to all staff – both technical and teaching – to ensure a healthy, motivating, and performance-friendly working environment,” he added.
The celebration concluded in an atmosphere of joy, camaraderie, and fraternity, with music, dancing, and a renewed spirit of unity.
